Home Education

Our education team now run exciting and engaging sessions for the home ed community. These are held at our Thornton Wildwood site set within an amazing private ‘wild woodland’ located in-between the villages of Thornton & Nash, MK17. Don’t be put off by the School in Forest School, our ethos is about as from the conventional education system as it gets, and combines personal and social development with physical skills, environmental awareness and fosters a connection to nature. Of course that’s all wrapped up in learner led sessions just bursting with fun activities for all ages! This wonderful back to basics wild site will take you and your young adventurers away from the hustle and bustle and into pure nature at its very best.

Our Adult Accompanied sessions are open to home educated children aged between 4-13, and children with SEN needs are welcome.  A Parent/Carer (over the age of 18) of the booked child will need to be present for the duration of the sessions. (There is no charge for parent/carers in attendance).

Our fun-packed sessions are an opportunity for the home education community to get together and for both children and parents/carers to immerse themselves in a wonderful outdoor learning experience that offers enrichment, emotional and social development, and a deep appreciation of nature.

Everything we do is deeply rooted in the Forest School ethos, with heavy emphasis on the holistic development of children and young people. That means jointly the social, emotional, physical, mental, and intellectual growth of a person, and we put great effort into creating environments, activities and situations where the children who come to our sessions can get those benefits in fun, impactful, and memorable ways, and in a suitable environment. They are designed to instil a lifelong love of the natural world, while also giving them confidence to assess, manage and take calculated risks, which results in greater confidence to try new things. And as we know, confident children grow into confident adults.

Our inspiring and interactive sessions regularly include:

  • Shelter building
  • Mini-beast hunting
  • Nature based crafts like whittling and weaving
  • Campfire building, lighting and cooking
  • High ropes, swings and hammocks in the trees
  • Tool work including knives, saws, axes and hammers
  • Mud kitchen catering
  • And at certain times of the year we take part in woodland management and planting

If it’s fun and it’s outdoors you’ll find it at Green Planet!
